Completing courses in Gender and Development and Gender and Sexuality provided a multifaceted understanding of the complex dynamics shaping individuals’ lives. These courses emphasize the importance of promoting gender equality and the empowerment of all genders, particularly marginalized groups. Students were equipped with the skills to critically analyze issues through a gendered lens and advocate for gender-sensitive approaches—the intersectionality of gender with other social categories and the significance of cultural sensitivity in development work. The courses also foster expertise in evaluating the impact of development, understanding legal frameworks, and building collaborative networks for promoting gender inclusivity and equity. After completing the Gender and Development and Gender and Sexuality courses, I gained significant awareness and expanded my understanding of how gender norms and inequalities affect all aspects of life. Emphasis was placed on the need for inclusive and equitable practices. My empathy and commitment to advocating for marginalized groups have been raised tremendously, which have equipped me with critical thinking skills to analyze and address systemic barriers. I have learned the importance of an intersectional approach, considering race, class, and sexuality alongside gender to create comprehensive solutions. The courses have prompted me to reflect on my biases, fostering continuous personal growth. Engaging with diverse perspectives has underscored the value of collaboration in advancing gender equality. I encourage everyone to delve into these topics to contribute to a more just and inclusive society.
